About Us

Karl H. Troy graduated from high school in Vienna, Austria at the age of 14. Karl has always loved high performance vehicles and he chose to pursue his passion and attend the Automotive Technical Institute in Vienna, Austria. He completed an apprenticeship with a Master Mechanic at a PORSCHE/AUDI dealership at the same time.

Karl’s family moved to the United States in 1982. Karl was invited to work for BRUN Motorsport. While at Brun, Karl prepared a Porsche 962 for the IMSA Series.

Traveling the world he also prepared other 962s for WEC (World Endurance Championship). He and his fellow team members became World Champions at the end of the 1986 series in Fuji, Japan.

In 1998, Karl was hired by SVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Association). There he was given the opportunity to restore two Devin SS sports cars. (Only 14 were built.) One of these cars was featured in Road & Track Magazine, the other in Sports Car International.

In 1990, Karl opened his own automobile repair shop, European Road & Racing. He specializes in service, repair and high performance modifications, including race care preparation. Karl continues to pursue his passion and is still active as a crew member on IMSA and Grand Am racing teams. He’s currently crew chief on a two million dollar Porsche powered prototype that races in the Grand Am Series.

In 2002, Karl entered his personal Lamborghini Diablo VT in the world renowned Cannon Ball Run/ One Lap of America and placed 10th overall. (The highest placed finish for a first time entry.) This was quite an accomplishment considering his stock Diablo was up against a field of highly modified cars, many of which were driven by professional drivers. Both Karl and the Lamborghini were featured in Car & Driver, Euro Tuner, Roundel and Grassroots Motorsports Magazines. The car was also featured on Car & Driver  television.

We feel that it is important for you to understand Karl’s passion for automobiles and racing, as Karl personally diagnoses and/or repairs every automobile that comes into his shop. Over the past 19 years European Road & Racing have earned themselves an outstanding reputation in Charleston, South Carolina. This reputation is based on Karl’s pursuit of complete customer satisfaction. This is difficult if not impossible to obtain in a large shop with separate managers, coordinators, and technicians. Karl feels strongly that he talks to the customer, diagnoses the automobile’s problem, and is responsible for the appropriate repairs. European Road & Racing is an unique repair facility and is the only repair facility in a two hundred mile radius that performs professional race team quality work on exotic cars such as Lamborghini and Ferrari. The same attention to detail is given to Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW and Audi.

Karl applies his skill and knowledge learned in IMSA and Grand Am circuits on your personal car. His automobile knowledge and experience starts with older cars and extends up to current super cars. Vehicles have been transported from as far as California and Arizona to have Karl perform service and or performance modification.

Martin Troy is Karl’s brother and  a very important part of the business as the BMW specialist.  He has the same sense of quality and integrity that has gotten Karl where he is today. The fact that they are the same in regards to that is no coincidence. They owe a big thanks to their  parents for raising them with values that would benefit them for the rest of their lives.
